30-Day Prayer Challenge, Day 9

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving”    (Colossians‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬).

Thoughts On Yesterday’s Challenge

For the last couple of weeks I have been working in a warehouse. It has been out of my comfort zone, quite literally–I normally work in the coldest part of the building, but this task is in the second hottest place in the building. It has me working with strangers, which as an introvert is also outside of my comfort zone. It did, however put me in a place where I have more opportunities to be a light for the Gospel’s sake.

As I expected, but failed to mention yesterday, the listening part of this week’s challenge was frought with numerous mental distractions. I was able to pray where I would have very few physical distractions. Learning to listen is a bit more difficult than one would think.

I did walk away with one thing to focus on for both breaks, and that was simply not being a distraction from the light of Christ within me as I worked with these new individuals.

Learning to quiet the distractions enough to hear His voice will be the real challenge.

The Verse

The phrase “being watchful in it” really stood out to me. It seemed to fit right in with this weeks theme of learning to listen to the voice of God. He doesn’t always speak in the same manner. Sometimes a thought will pop into your head of something you need to do or say. Sometimes an image of a person or place or action.

Sometimes we can’t or don’t hear his voice. When that happens, especially when that happens, we need to “be watchful” as we continue with our day, looking for opportunities to love and serve God by loving and serving people.

And, as in all things, when you know His will obey immediately.

Blessings on your day!
