Hungry!

“For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things” (Psalm 107:9 ESV).

Have you ever been so hungry that you couldn’t focus on anything else? Or, like the Snickers commercials, have you been so hungry that your personality changes? “Hangry“?

Or have you ever been hungry for one specific thing, and nothing else would satisfy you?

Final question (maybe!). Have you ever had an experience with God that made you long for more? That’s the state in which God desires to find us. Hungry!

His desire is that we would want Him above all else. I’m not referring to wanting church above all else. I’m not talking about wanting ministry above all else. And I am definitely not talking about wanting His blessings above all else. I’m talking about wanting Him above all else!

“For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things” (Psalm 107:9 ESV). Think about those words for a minute.

What kind of soul finds satisfaction? What does He do to the hungry soul? He fills it with good things!

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalms 34:8a ESV)!

If you don’t have a hunger to know Him, pray and ask Him to fill you with that hunger. Pray that He place in you a desire to desire Him. Read the Word, looking for truths about Him and ways to know Him. He will satisfy!

  1. I suspect that at least for some people, a hunger for God is an acquired taste … that as we spend time with him, we learn to enjoy him. I think about blue cheese … something my dad loved but I thought as a child was terrible. Then I started having blue cheese on food like burgers. The more I ate it, the more I liked it. Now it is my go to dressing on salads. Many of us need to try different devotional patterns and activities until we discover those that give us that hunger for God.
