“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15 ESV)!
Have you ever been given a gift that took your breath away; a gift so amazing that you had no words? Maybe it was kind words from an unexpected source, or a thoughtful, selfless act done on your behalf.
If you are a Christ follower, then that is a trick question!
Consider the greatest enemy you ever had. You might think that I’m referring to the devil, but you would be wrong. When we were without Jesus, we bore the eternal weight and damnation for our own sin. We were enemies of God and of the cross of Christ. Sin, put simply, is rebellion against God. We were in the crosshairs of God’s judgment.
Yet from our most powerful enemy, who alone holds the power to sentence us to Hell, came the Good News that announced amnesty. A thoughtful, selfless act–the sacrificial death and atonement of the only Son of God–had purchased our freedom from an eternity of suffering and damnation.
I am thankful for the inexpressible gift of God. I hope you are too!
