Wisdom Wednesday: Teach Me, Lead Me

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground” (‭Psalms‬ ‭143:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬)!

When we were children we were sponges! We were constantly watching and listening, mimicking and parroting. We soaked up EVERYTHING! And we were so eager to learn more. And in the manner of children everywhere we drove our parents crazy with one repetitive question, “why?”.

In the course of time we were able to find our own answers. We had grown and succeeded, to one degree or another, at independence. We were encouraged by our parents and our societies to do so. We took pride in our independence. And while independence is a respected trait, we spend the entirety, it seems, of our remaining lives learning to become dependent once again.

Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3 ESV). So day by day, moment by moment, we are encouraged to yield to the Holy Spirit and relinquish our hard won freedom in favor of complete dependence upon God.

But this is a good thing! We get to sit at the feet of Jesus as He teaches us to do His will. We get to walk hand-in-hand with the Creator of everything as He leads us on level ground.

Don’t think of surrender as giving up your freedom. Think of it as living up to sonship and daughtership of the King!

Blessings on your day!
