“Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God” (1 Peter 1:22-23 ESV).
I’ve written before about our responsibility as Christians to love one another. I’m sure I’d be lying if I told you that I wouldn’t write about it again. But here Peter adds a word to the imperative that takes t to another level: earnestly.
For me, the word earnestly brings to mind any of my hobbies. My obsessive personality ensures that when I find a new hobby I become earnest about learning as much as I can and participate at every free moment. It drives my family crazy, but it serves to illustrate passionate devotion.
God has not merely called us to love, but to love as if it is our only mission in life!
As always, these are the musings of a mindful disciple. Blessings on your week!
